Are your window covering cords child safe? Child safety week was June 22, thru’ June 28, 2009. Even though child safety week has come and gone, child safety considerations should be every day of every week of every year. Federal law has mandated that all window covering fabricators have blind cords that are compliant to avoid contributing to child strangulation. Parents and homeowners should take steps to eliminate the risk of their blinds being a hazard, whereby blind cords can create a loop sufficient to go over a toddler or child’s head. Many homes today have older blinds that are a danger to toddlers. Young children and toddlers beds or cribs should not be placed next to a window if at all possible, especially if the blinds are older and non-compliant. If your older blinds need freshening up and to be made child safety compliant, call Designer Window Coverings for a free in home estimate at (702)595-7640
